With all the events unfolding in Israel, my Facebook news feed has come to resemble a political debate where the opponents are unwittingly passive aggressively battling each other using YouTube clips and various articles to better, uh, ‘educate’ their friends as to who exactly is in the right.
I am not going to pretend hat I have a firm handle on this topic. My opinions are of course going to be inevitably biased by the information that I access, and as of late I have not read as much on the topic as I would have liked. So I will not even attempt to join the barrage of arguments out there- not that I want to.
Let me just say this. Fighting like this is not a sporting game, anything where there is a loss of human life is sad, and something to be mourned. As far as I can see, no one is unarguably in the right, both “sides” have thrown stones, and both are guilty of unnecessary violence.
Those of us fortunate enough to be living away from this situation need to think long and hard about what we publicly advocate for, and if anything really is to be gained by taking sides.
As for me, I chose peace. I chose human life. I hope for a resolution that sees as many lives saved as possible. There are no winners in this situation, only a country in distress and many lives being irreparably scarred.
That’s my two cents worth!
